Karunamoyi was the only daughter of Nani Gopal Bandyopadhyay. She was born in the year 1917 in Bandyopadhyay Bhavan. Her education started in the village Pathshala, at home. For her secondary education, she was to travel far away village school, but she was not allowed to move out of the home. Hence, her education was limited to the primary level only.
Although her educational exposure was limited, she picked up various skills for home management. Though she could not do higher studies, Karunamoyi had dominating personality and leadership like qualities. At a young age, she was married to Shri Nandalal Chatterjee, at Barrackpore. Karunamoye had to manage a big family with meagre resources, yet she was never unnerved and kept her focus to bring up the children as well as participate in all external activities.
Since her childhood, Karunamoyi was exposed to the philanthropic activities done by her father, Shri Nani Gopal, for the villagers. This inspired her to do whatever little she could, for the help seekers, in spite of her very poor economic status. Karunamoyi breathed her last at 91 years.
